I've been in trading for years, and let me tell you something many beginners don't understand: the difference between a regular stock market simulator and a broker's demo account is more important than it seems.

Look, stock simulators are basically educational tools. They give you a sense of how investing works, but they don't show you the full reality. Demo accounts, on the other hand, are something else. They are linked to real brokers and exactly reflect what you'll experience when you put real money in. It's the difference between practicing in a video game and simulating in real conditions.

The key point is that both serve the same purpose: learning without risk. But a demo stock account prepares you better because you see the exact tools, the execution speed, the available assets. Everything as it will be later.

The interesting part is that with a good demo account, you can access stocks, indices, forex, cryptocurrencies, CFDs, ETFs, commodities. It depends on the broker. Some are more comprehensive than others.

Now, I have seen people make classic mistakes with demo accounts. The first is false euphoria: when you have virtual money that isn't yours, you invest irrationally. The second is the effect of available capital. They give you $50,000 virtual dollars to practice, but when you trade with real money, you'll have much less. That completely changes your psychology as a trader.

MyTrade is one of my favorites because it offers an unlimited demo account with no time restrictions. That’s important because some brokers limit you to 30 days. There's also Virtual Stock Exchange by MarketWatch, which is solid. IG is classic, with MetaTrader included. HowTheMarketWorks is more educational if you come in without experience. And eToro if you're interested in social trading.

My recommendation: take the demo account seriously. Invest as if it were real money, follow your trades, keep a record. Don't use the demo as a casino. Many professional traders still use demo accounts to test new strategies before bringing them to the real market. This is not just for beginners.

The trick is to combine demo practice with constant education. Read, study, experiment. The demo stock market won't make you a millionaire, but it will save you costly mistakes when you finally start with real capital.

If you're considering entering trading, a demo account is your best starting point. It's free, risk-free, and you can switch to real money at any time once you feel ready.
