I just recently realized that the trading hours for the US stock market are actually a bit complicated, especially since Taiwan has to adjust for daylight saving time. We are now in daylight saving time, so the regular trading hours are from 9:30 PM to 4:00 PM the next day Taiwan time, which is one hour earlier than in winter.
Is the US stock market closed today? I checked the holiday schedule for 2026, and during late May, it still has regular trading days. It won't be closed until Memorial Day at the end of May. However, many people often get confused and think that the US stock market is concentrated on a single exchange like the Taiwan stock market, but that's not the case — the New York Stock Exchange, NASDAQ, and the American Securities Exchange operate independently. Although their opening and closing times are mostly synchronized, the types of stocks traded on each are different.
If you want to know whether the US stock market is closed today or check other trading hours, the simplest way is to remember this rule: the US adjusts for daylight saving time, but Asia does not, so the time difference changes. Pre-market trading, regular hours, and after-hours trading each have their own times. If you want to seriously trade US stocks, you should memorize these time points clearly, or you'll easily miss trading opportunities.
