There are rumors online that HSBC Hong Kong has stopped allowing mainland residents to open accounts offline, but this is false news. Please be aware.

However, for new account openings by non-Hong Kong ID holders (mainly affecting mainland residents), if the average total wealth managed in the past 3 months is below 10k HKD, a low-balance service fee of 100 HKD per month will be charged.
Existing accounts opened before the end of 2025 and Hong Kong ID holders are not affected, so if you opened your card earlier, you do not need to pay the service fee.
