In 2025, the U.S. stock market remains one of the most attractive destinations for Vietnamese investors. Transparency, credibility, professionalism, and good profits—these are the reasons many people want to participate.
Major exchanges like NYSE and NASDAQ focus on prestigious stocks: Google, Tesla, Apple, Microsoft... The great thing is that now investing in the U.S. stock market from Vietnam has become very easy. Just download an app or trade on a computer, and you can seize profit opportunities anytime.
There are 6 main ways to participate in this market:
The first is CFD trading (Contract for Difference). This is the most popular method currently in Vietnam because it allows the use of leverage—meaning you only need modest capital but can trade large volumes. The advantage is flexibility; you can profit whether prices go up or down. The downside is high risk if you don't know how to manage it.
The second is buying IPO stocks—newly listed stocks with potential for rapid price increases. This method suits risk-tolerant investors.
The third is investing in individual stocks. You choose a company you like, analyze thoroughly, and buy directly. However, to do this from Vietnam, you need substantial capital because leverage cannot be used.
The fourth is investing in stock indices like S&P 500, Dow Jones 30, or Nasdaq 100. This approach requires less research effort and is suitable for long-term investors.
The fifth is buying ETF stocks—funds that track indices. This is a safe method, suitable for those who prefer stability.
The sixth is trading futures contracts. Similar to CFDs, it allows leverage and is suitable for active traders.
U.S. stock indices you need to know:
S&P 500—an index of the 500 largest companies, considered the standard for market evaluation. Dow Jones (DJIA)—an index of the 30 largest blue-chip companies. Nasdaq Composite—an index of all stocks listed on Nasdaq, including small-cap companies. Nasdaq 100—an index of the 100 largest non-financial companies, focusing on technology.
Main stock exchanges:
NYSE (New York Stock Exchange)—the largest exchange in the world, established in 1792, with a physical trading floor. NASDAQ—no physical floor, fully online trading, favored by tech companies. AMEX—smaller exchange, specializing in ETFs and hybrid securities.
U.S. stock trading hours in Vietnam:
The U.S. market opens from 20:30 to 3:00 the next morning (Vietnam time), Monday through Friday. Outside official hours, you can also trade before and after market hours, but liquidity will be lower.
Wall Street is the world's largest financial center, located in Manhattan, New York. It hosts major banks, investment funds, and the biggest exchanges in the U.S.
The U.S. stock market accounts for over 50% of the total global stock market value. Daily trading volume in the U.S. reaches about $33 trillion—5 times that of China, 15 times India. U.S. market capitalization is around $30 trillion, 5 times China’s and 6 times Japan’s.
Some major stocks: Microsoft (technology, market cap ~3.1 trillion USD), Apple (technology, ~2.6 trillion USD), Amazon (e-commerce, ~1.9 trillion USD), Google (technology, ~1.9 trillion USD), Tesla (consumer durables, ~550 billion USD).
For Vietnamese investors, the most common way to participate in U.S. stock investing from Vietnam is through online CFD trading platforms, so you can start with small capital, simple procedures, and have opportunities to profit from both rising and falling markets.
However, investing always involves risks. The key is to learn risk management, develop a clear strategy, and choose a reputable platform. Before participating, take time to understand the U.S. stock market, grasp basic knowledge, and select a trustworthy broker to accompany you on your investment journey.
