I just realized during international transactions that I really don’t understand how to use various currency symbols. The dollar sign $ , euro € , and British pound £ are okay, but symbols like Japanese yen ¥ and Chinese yuan ¥ look exactly the same, which can be really confusing.

Later, I understood that currency symbols are actually just shorthand tools; writing $100 is much faster than writing "100 US dollars." The key is to quickly identify the value fluctuations of different currencies during forex trading or international payments. For example, seeing a currency pair like EUR/USD tells you it’s the euro against the US dollar exchange rate.

The most useful discovery is that these symbols all have quick input methods on the keyboard. The dollar sign can be entered directly with Shift+4, and on Mac, euro is Shift+Option+2. If you often need to input various currency symbols, these tricks can save a lot of time. Also, note that the $ symbol is used in over 30 countries worldwide; the US dollar, Canadian dollar, and Australian dollar all use $, so sometimes you need to add prefixes to distinguish, like US$, C$, A$.

How do you usually handle these currency symbols during international transactions? Do you have quick recognition tips?
