Recently, there's been more debate about whether to regulate royalties in the secondary market. Honestly, everyone just wants to save those few basis points, but creators aren't just sitting around doing nothing either... I'm just someone running side projects every day, and calculating costs gives me a headache: if royalties are high, I'd rather not sweep the floor; if royalties are gone, I feel this ecosystem will eventually be reduced to speculation shells.
A more realistic approach might be to make "support" optional but with rewards, such as exclusive permissions, airdrop whitelists, and the like—people willing to pay do so willingly.
By the way, the recent split over privacy coins/mixers in the community, with compliance issues, also looks quite similar to this: on one hand, talking about freedom, on the other, fearing bans; in the end, it all comes down to "who will pay the bill."
Anyway, when I choose projects now, I pay more attention to how they design incentives; otherwise, doing more side projects just feels like working for air.
