I've just noticed that many traders are increasingly interested in online prop trading. If you're new to trading and still confused about what Prop trade is, I’d like to share my experience and understanding with you.
Simply put, Prop trade or Proprietary trading is when a company provides a large amount of capital to traders to trade in various markets, whether it's forex, stocks, or commodities. The difference from regular trading is that you don't need to put in a lot of your own money; the company bears the risk. In exchange, they share the profits with you.
For Forex Prop trade, it specifically relates to the currency market only. There are two types: the traditional one (must be an office employee) and the online one (can trade from home). This year, it’s clear that online trading has become increasingly popular, especially after the global crisis.
What’s interesting is that online prop trading no longer acts as an intermediary but instead allows traders to access the markets and capital directly. This means you are fully responsible for your own trading. You need to understand risk management, trading psychology, and various strategies.
The process of joining Prop trade is not easy. You need to find a suitable company, submit an application, pass an interview, and then go through an evaluation phase (Challenge), which generally takes 30-60 days. During this period, you must prove that you can generate consistent profits.
The advantage of Prop trade is that you have high independence—you don’t need to go to an office. If you perform well, your income can be attractive, and most of the risk is borne by the company, not you. However, there are downsides too: you need high discipline, mental toughness, and your income is not guaranteed or steady, with no fixed salary.
For success tips, I believe the most important thing is risk management. Don’t risk more than you can afford to lose. Control your emotions when the market is volatile. Stick to what works for you, and use tools like RSI to help make decisions.
Prop trading is not a shortcut to wealth, but it’s a real opportunity if you have the skills and mental resilience. My advice is to do thorough research, choose a reputable company, and prepare yourself for the challenge. With the right mindset and solid strategies, this could be a truly rewarding trading path. Personally, I also keep track of market data and tools on Gate to stay updated with market conditions at all times.
