In 2025, I notice that more and more Vietnamese friends are interested in buying U.S. stocks. Actually, it's not as complicated as you think.

The U.S. stock market is highly attractive due to transparency, credibility, and good profit opportunities. Wall Street is not just a symbol; it is also the largest financial center in the world. NYSE and NASDAQ host major stocks like Google, Apple, Tesla. Data shows that the U.S. market accounts for over 50% of the total global stock market value, with daily trading volume reaching tens of trillions of USD.

There are 6 main ways to buy U.S. stocks from Vietnam:

The first is CFD trading with leverage. This is the most popular method today because you only need a small capital but can earn significant profits. The advantage is flexibility, profit whether prices go up or down, quick access to indices and stocks. But the downside is high risk if leverage is used unwisely, and you do not own the actual stocks, so you do not receive dividends.

The second is buying IPO stocks. Newly listed stocks often have potential for rapid price increases, but the risk is also not small because there is no trading history yet. You will own the actual shares of the company and receive dividends, but it requires large capital and thorough analysis.

The third is buying individual stocks. You choose a company you like, analyze it carefully, then invest long-term. The condition is having large capital because leverage cannot be used.

The fourth is investing in U.S. stock indices like S&P 500, Dow Jones, Nasdaq 100. Instead of picking individual stocks, you invest in a basket of stocks. The benefit is simplicity, lower risk, suitable for long-term strategies. But you need large capital and only profit when the index rises.

The fifth is investing in ETFs. These funds mimic indices, consisting of many potential stocks. Long-term returns are stable, and no need for detailed analysis. But it also requires large capital and does not pay dividends.

The sixth is investing in futures contracts. Similar to CFDs, you can use leverage with small capital. High risk but also great profit opportunities.

If you want to buy U.S. stocks from Vietnam, you need to know the main indices. S&P 500 is the index of the 500 largest companies, considered the gold standard for market assessment. Dow Jones includes 30 blue-chip companies, influenced by geopolitical events. Nasdaq Composite includes all stocks listed on Nasdaq, including small companies. Nasdaq 100 only includes the 100 largest non-financial companies, focusing on technology.

The main trading exchanges are NYSE, NASDAQ, AMEX. NYSE is the oldest (since 1792), has a physical trading floor, and enormous trading volume. NASDAQ has no physical floor, trades entirely online, and is favored by tech companies for listing. AMEX is smaller, specializing in ETFs and hybrid securities.

U.S. stock trading hours are from 20:30 to 3:00 Vietnam time (corresponding to 9:30-16:00 ET). Outside official hours, you can also trade pre-market from 19:00-20:00 and after hours from 3:00-5:30. However, outside regular hours, liquidity is lower, spreads are wider, mainly involving institutional investors.

I recommend that before buying U.S. stocks, you thoroughly research the market, master basic knowledge, and choose a reputable platform. Investing always involves risks, but if you know how to manage risk and have a clear strategy, the profit opportunities are very large. The U.S. stock market is truly a fertile land for smart investors.
