AI helps you manage your wallet! Base chain launches the “Base MCP” protocol: conversation equals transaction, with initial support for 7 major DeFi including Uniswap

The vision of AI-managed crypto assets is officially coming to fruition! Coinbase's Layer 2 network Base has released an official announcement, launching a disruptive innovative tool called "Base MCP." This feature allows AI agents (such as Claude, ChatGPT) to directly and securely connect with your Base account. In the future, users only need to input simple conversational commands to have AI help you complete token swaps, transfers, and even operate complex DeFi lending and perpetual contracts. Most importantly, AI cannot access private keys, and all transactions still require manual user confirmation, balancing ultimate convenience with security.

The transaction and interaction experience of cryptocurrencies is about to undergo a revolutionary change. Coinbase-backed Layer 2 network Base officially announced on May 27, 2026, the launch of an integrated tool called "Base MCP."

This new feature successfully builds a secure bridge between artificial intelligence (AI) and on-chain economy, enabling ordinary users to directly command AI agents to perform complex blockchain operations through the most intuitive "natural language."

What is Base MCP? Turning chat boxes into Web3 terminals

The core concept of Base MCP is to allow AI agents running on interfaces like Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, or Cursor to securely access your Base account (using the same account system as Base App).

After completing login authorization, users only need to input simple prompts, and the AI agent can assist in executing various on-chain operations:

  • Asset tracking: View balances and detailed transaction history of your Base and other EVM-compatible chains.
  • Basic transactions: Quickly perform token transfers and decentralized swaps.
  • Ecosystem interaction: Through "Skill Plugins," call and use decentralized applications (dApps) within the Base ecosystem directly in the chat.
  • Service payments: Support payments for network services enabled with x402.

Support for 7 major protocols, one-stop DeFi operations

To maximize the potential of AI agents, Base MCP introduces a powerful "Skill Plugin" mechanism. Currently, the first batch has integrated 7 well-known on-chain protocols, covering key areas like lending, decentralized exchanges (DEX), and perpetual contracts:

  • Uniswap / AerodromeFi: View liquidity pool opportunities, manage LP (liquidity provider) positions, and execute token swaps.
  • MoonwellDeFi / Morpho: Automatically find the best lending rates, supply assets to specific vaults, and perform lending actions.
  • Avantis: Conduct perpetual contract trading and position management.
  • Virtuals / Bankr: Discover new tokens or new AI agent issuance info, and sort token operations based on market data.

Security first! AI suggestions, human approval

Handing over wallet and asset operation permissions to AI will undoubtedly raise strong concerns about security. In response, Coinbase has made clear commitments and protective mechanisms: AI servers will never hold or access your wallet private keys.

Base MCP adopts a rigorous "AI construction, human review" dual mechanism. When you issue a command, the AI agent only constructs the transaction request and temporarily stores it on the server. It then generates a dedicated review link within the chat interface. Clicking the link opens your Base account interface in a new window, where the system visually displays a "simulated asset change" result for this transaction.

Only after user confirmation and personal signing will the transaction be truly executed on-chain. This design keeps full control in the hands of the user, preventing AI system misbehavior and effectively defending against phishing or domain hijacking attacks.

Open developer API for custom skill plugins

Coinbase states that future plans include continuously expanding the skill plugin library and further optimizing prompt workflows and AI integration depth. For Web3 developers, it’s now easy to create your own custom skill plugins by writing Protocol API calls in simple Markdown syntax. This is expected to ignite a wave of AI combined with decentralized application development within the Base ecosystem.
