Today, the Central Meteorological Observatory released this year’s first “National Weather Service Special Report for Summer Harvest and Summer Planting,” indicating that nationwide meteorological services for summer harvest and summer planting in 2026 have officially kicked off. The Central Meteorological Observatory expects that in late May, rainfall in the summer grain-producing areas will be above normal. Before the 26th, it will rain frequently in the southern Jianghan region and from the Jianghuai region to the northern part of Jiangnan; the prolonged over-wetness of the soil will last for a long time, which is unfavorable for harvesting and sun- or air-drying. There is also a relatively high risk of continuous rainy weather during rapeseed harvest. In early to mid-June, precipitation in eastern North China, most of the Huanghuai region, and northeastern Hubei, among other areas, will be close to or slightly below normal; rainfall in southeastern Henan, most of Anhui, and central-eastern Hubei will be lower by 2 to 5 tenths, which is generally beneficial for centralized mechanized harvesting and drying of winter wheat.
