When you open the stock streaming application and see strange abbreviations attached to stock symbols like CA, XD, XM, XN... what do they actually mean? Why is it important to know before trading?

Actually, CA stands for Corporate Action, which refers to actions taken by the company. It indicates that "this stock will have some event happening within the next 7 days." If you want to know what that event is, you can click to view the details. You will see what the event is and when it will occur.

The important thing is that the abbreviations attached to stocks are divided into three main groups. The first group is the X series, which start with "Excluding," meaning investors will not receive certain rights. For example, XD stands for Excluding Dividend. If you buy the stock during the XD period, you will not receive dividends. But if you buy before that date, you will.

Besides CA, which means company movement, there are other X abbreviations, such as XM (not entitled to attend the shareholders' meeting), XW (not entitled to purchase warrants), XR (not entitled to subscribe for new shares). The letter X is a signal to be cautious; you need to check whether you will receive certain rights or not.

The second group is the T series, which are markers for stocks that have surged significantly and are highly speculative. The Stock Exchange has implemented measures to limit T1 level, meaning the stock can only be traded with cash. If it remains above the threshold for a month, it will be upgraded to T2, which cannot be used as collateral. If it stays above for another month, it becomes T3, which cannot be netted.

The third group includes other warning symbols, such as H (Trading Halt), which means trading is temporarily suspended for one session; SP (Trading Suspension), which lasts longer than one session; NC (Non-Compliance), indicating the company is subject to delisting; C (Caution), meaning the company has financial issues. If you see these symbols, you must be very cautious.

Understanding that CA means Corporate Action and knowing what these abbreviations stand for will help you know when to be cautious and what additional information to seek before deciding to trade. Each symbol has its own meaning and impact, so investing requires careful study beforehand.
