"Trump made over 3,600 stock trades in the first quarter"
According to Xinhua News Agency, citing a report released by the U.S. Office of Government Ethics on the 19th, U.S. President Trump made over 3,600 stock trades in the first quarter of this year, including many stocks of companies directly affected by his decisions.
Based on this latest report of over 100 pages, due to Trump's high frequency of stock trading, the trading volume over three months may have exceeded $100 million, with an average of nearly 50 trades per day after the stock market opens.
The report states that Trump's stock trades involved Nvidia, with a trading volume of up to $6 million. His portfolio also includes stocks of Apple, Boeing, and Tesla, as well as stocks of U.S. defense contractors such as Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and General Dynamics.
Paine, a former U.S. government ethics advisor, said, "If he were the Secretary of Defense, this would be a crime. Strictly speaking, he can do this (buy and sell stocks), but it fundamentally breaches people's trust." U.S. law prohibits federal employees from holding financial assets that could be affected by their work, except for the President.
Benza, a spokesperson for Trump's family business, stated that Trump's investment portfolio is managed by a third party, and he has "exclusive authority" over investment decisions.
It is reported that recent U.S. presidents have sold all their stocks before taking office, and their funds are placed into highly diversified funds or established as full discretionary trusts. As a result, they are even unaware of what assets they hold.
