Golden Finance reports that the European Police Organization and Latvia's counter-terrorism unit recently raided an office in Latvia, dismantling a SIM card scam operation.
The police seized a total of 1,200 SIM box devices and 40k active SIM cards, capable of connecting to 80 countries simultaneously.
The gang operated two websites, Gogetsms and Apisim, providing on-demand rental overseas phone numbers for criminals engaged in phishing, bank scams, investment frauds, extortion, and human trafficking activities.
This network has caused at least 3,200 scam cases in Austria and Latvia, with losses amounting to $5.8 million.
Authorities also confiscated 4 luxury cars, froze $470k in bank account funds, and seized $290k in cryptocurrency.
Despite being operated by only 7 people, the gang created 49 million fake accounts through their services.
