ИИ-агенты AI agents# NYT: AI Triggers a Hiring Boom for Cybersecurity Specialists

The development of generative artificial intelligence has led to a sharp rise in demand for cybersecurity specialists amid overall cuts in the tech sector. This is reported by The New York Times.

According to the outlet, corporations are actively hiring data protection engineers, as the use of AI to write code has increased the number of vulnerabilities. The situation was aggravated by the release of Mythos, Anthropic’s neural network, which demonstrated high abilities in searching for and exploiting bugs in critical infrastructure.

According to forecasts by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of information security specialists will grow by 29% over the next decade. The agency expects about 16,000 new openings every year.

Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesha Arora confirmed the trend, noting that AI does not replace engineers but increases the need for them. He said that in the first half of fiscal year 2026, the company’s headcount grew by almost 1,000 people.

Employers have become more selective: candidates are now required to have skills at the intersection of AI and cybersecurity. At the same time, the salaries of top executives in this field have reached record highs of $7 million–$8 million per year.

In the Global Cybersecurity Outlook 2026 report, the talent shortage was cited as the main barrier to digital resilience. About 94% of respondents believe that artificial intelligence is a key factor driving transformation in the industry over the coming year.

Despite automation of routine tasks, experts are confident that the value of specialists capable of testing and defending AI systems will only grow. At the same time, entry-level positions in development continue to shrink under pressure from neural networks.

Recall that in February, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said that some companies use artificial intelligence as a pretext for layoffs.
