I've seen many people ask about these stock suffix symbols like CA, XD, XM, and others. What exactly do they mean? Today, I want to share clear knowledge about these because they are important when buying stocks.

Let's start with CA first, which stands for Corporate Action, meaning that this stock will have an important event happening soon within 7 days. If you see the CA symbol, just click to view the details to see what the event is and when it will occur. Usually, stock suffix symbols are divided into three main groups.

The first group is the X symbol, which begins with "Excluding," meaning "if you buy the stock now, you will not have certain rights." For example, XD stands for Excluding Dividend. If you buy the stock when it goes XD, you will not receive the dividend this round. But if you buy and hold until the next XD, you will receive the dividend then. XM means Excluding Meetings; if you buy when it goes XM, you won't attend the shareholders' meeting. XR stands for Excluding Rights, meaning you won't have the right to subscribe for new shares. Other symbols like XW, XS, XT, XI, XP, XA, XE, XN, XB have similar meanings but refer to different rights or benefits.

If you buy stocks to receive dividends, you should buy before the stock goes XD. Yes, you can buy the day before it goes XD and still receive the dividend. Whether you buy before or after, you will get the same rate.

The second group is the T symbol, indicating that this stock is highly speculative, with a significant price increase. The stock exchange has implemented restrictions, divided into T1, T2, T3, in order of severity. T1 is Trading Alert Level 1, where you must buy only with a Cash Balance account. If the stock remains in this level for another month, it will escalate to T2. T3 is the highest level, prohibiting the stock from being used as collateral and from offsetting positions. This means that after selling, the buying power will not return immediately but will come back the next day instead.

The third group is warning symbols, such as H, which stands for Trading Halt, meaning the stock trading is temporarily suspended for one session. SP stands for Trading Suspension, which lasts more than one session. NP means Notice Pending, indicating the company has something to report. NC stands for Non-Compliance, meaning the company will be delisted from the market. ST stands for Stabilization, meaning the stock is maintaining price stability. C means Caution, indicating the company has issues and high risk.

In summary, understanding these stock suffix symbols is very important when choosing stocks because they tell us what is about to happen to that stock and what benefits we get from holding it. Every time you see the CA symbol, click to view the details clearly before deciding to buy, as it will help you invest wisely and reduce risks.
