Would you rather have more respect or more money?

I usually avoid giving money to beggars. I’d rather offer food or help them find work.
Once, I read about someone offering a housekeeping job to a woman begging on the street. Her response stayed with me:
“Why would I work for ₹3–4k a month when I can earn 5–10 times more here?”
It sounded shocking at first. But the more I thought about it, the more complicated the question became.
What really matters more:
How much money you make?
Or how much respect you earn?
And honestly, the answer changes depending on one thing:
How much money do you already have?
When survival is uncertain, money becomes dignity.
When basic needs are met, dignity becomes priceless.
Maybe that’s why success today feels so confusing.
Some people chase wealth to earn respect.
Others give up respect to gain wealth faster.
And somewhere in between, most of us are still trying to define what “enough” looks like.
