The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, posted on social media platform X on the 24th that, with increased efforts in Ebola epidemic prevention and control monitoring in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the country has currently identified over 900 suspected cases, of which 101 have been confirmed through subsequent testing.
Tedros said that in the epidemic's epicenter, Ituri Province, nearly 5 million people are living amidst ongoing conflict.
Currently, 1 in 4 people in the province needs humanitarian aid, and 1 in 5 is internally displaced.
Violent incidents have forced people to flee their homes, severely hindering contact tracing of Ebola cases and affecting early detection and timely provision of supportive treatment.
Ongoing instability and panic have also worsened distrust within communities. (Xinhua)
