On May 22, Ling Ji, Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy Representative for International Trade Negotiations, presided over a roundtable meeting with foreign-invested enterprises in the pharmaceutical sector. Representatives from more than 50 foreign enterprises, including Sanofi, Novartis, Merck & Co., Becton Dickinson, Gilead Sciences, Eli Lilly, and Danaher, attended the meeting. Relevant officials from the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Health Commission, the National Healthcare Security Administration, and the National Medical Products Administration attended and exchanged with the companies on site. Ling Ji said, “The ‘15th Five-Year Plan’ period is a critical time for advancing the Healthy China initiative. China’s pharmaceutical industry has a well-developed innovation ecosystem, and it has the world’s largest healthcare service and protection system, which will create tremendous opportunities for multinational pharmaceutical companies to develop in China in the long term. The Chinese government adheres to a people-centered approach, continuously improves the quality of medical products and services, strengthens the pricing formation mechanism and regulatory system, expands opening-up in related fields, and lawfully ensures national treatment for foreign-invested enterprises. We welcome pharmaceutical companies from all countries to continue to deepen their efforts in the Chinese market and share in the dividends of China’s development.” (Ministry of Commerce)
