Have you ever wondered what the strange abbreviations at the end of stock names mean when you open a trading app, such as CA, XD, XM, T1? These seem important but you might not know what they stand for.
Actually, CA stands for Corporate Action, which means a company event. It indicates that this stock is about to have a significant event within 7 days. If you click on CA, you can see what will happen and when. This information is displayed as abbreviations with specific meanings.
These abbreviations are divided into three main groups. The first group is the "X" series, which starts with "Excluding," meaning investors will not receive certain rights. For example, XD stands for Excluding Dividend. If you buy the stock during the XD period, you will not receive the dividend this round. However, if you hold the stock until the next round, you will receive the dividend normally.
Besides XD, there are also XM (no voting rights at the shareholders' meeting), XW (no warrant purchase rights), XR (no rights to subscribe for new shares), and many others. Each abbreviation has a different meaning. Therefore, knowing what CA and these abbreviations stand for is important before deciding to buy a stock.
The second group consists of abbreviations starting with "T," which serve as warnings that the stock price has risen so much that the stock exchange has to implement measures to restrict trading. These are divided into T1, T2, T3, in order of severity. Stocks marked with T can only be purchased with cash. The stricter the T level, the more severe the restrictions; even offsetting positions is not allowed, especially with T3.
The third group includes abbreviations that warn investors to be cautious, such as H (Trading Halt), meaning trading is temporarily halted for one session; SP (Trading Suspension), meaning trading is suspended for more than one session; NC (Non-Compliance), indicating the company might be delisted; C (Caution), meaning the company has financial problems. These abbreviations serve as warning signals to think carefully before buying.
Understanding these abbreviations helps protect yourself better in investing, whether by avoiding stocks with issues or preparing for upcoming events. Once you know that CA stands for Corporate Action, it’s also important to learn the meanings of these abbreviations thoroughly to make your investments safer and smarter.
