Analysis: Bitcoin short positions are overly concentrated; a break above $82k or a trigger of a large-scale short squeeze.

Mars Finance News, on May 26, data shows that Bitcoin’s implied volatility has fallen to 36%, hitting a new 8-month low, indicating that the market expects BTC to continue trading in a range in the short term. The decline in volatility itself does not indicate the direction of the market, but current derivatives market data suggests that shorts may be overly concentrated; if BTC breaks through $82,000, it could trigger a large-scale short squeeze. CoinGlass’s liquidation heatmap shows that the $78,000–$83,000 range is crowded with a large number of BTC short positions. Meanwhile, BTC has failed to reclaim $90,000 for nearly 4 consecutive months, and some shorts have begun to build stronger bearish expectations. In addition, Glassnode data shows that BTC’s 30-day options Delta Skew is currently at 14%, meaning put options carry a clear premium over call options, reflecting that professional traders remain more concerned about the risk of BTC falling. The market has partially priced in the expectation that BTC will pull back to test $72,000, but if BTC breaks above $82,000 with heavy volume, it may trigger a more intense leveraged short liquidation event.

Professional traders tend to be cautious, but the crypto world has always gone against the grain.

If the volume breaks through 82k, the short covering chain reaction is expected to be very exciting.

36% is indeed quite low; the last time it was this quiet was last year.

Both bulls and bears are watching the 82k level; whoever acts first will get the profit.

Delta Skew 14% indicates that institutions are buying protection, while retail investors are actually rushing in.

78-83k range short positions bunching up, if it gets pushed up, the scene will be too beautiful.

With such low volatility, it feels like a big move is coming.
