Been diving into commodities trading platforms lately and honestly there's way more options than I expected. Everyone asks which one to use but the answer really depends on what you're after - beginners and pros want totally different things.
So I checked out the main players. Mitrade keeps coming up because the fees are straightforward, no commission nonsense, just spreads. Plus you can trade with up to 1:200 leverage on precious metals which is solid. The platform looks clean too, not overwhelming for someone starting out. eToro's got this copy trading feature which is interesting if you want to shadow experienced traders instead of figuring everything out alone. Plus500 is simple and doesn't charge commissions either, but the research tools are pretty bare bones.
For people who want more depth, IG Group has serious analytical stuff and research content. CMC Markets is similar but feels more complex - not ideal if you're new to commodities trading platforms. Then there's the heavy hitters like Interactive Brokers and Saxo Bank which are built for pros doing serious volume. They've got futures and options access but honestly they're overkill for most people and can be confusing to navigate.
The weird thing is how different each commodities trading platform handles fees. Some use spreads, some charge commissions per contract, some have both. Depends on what you're trading - energy like oil and gas move differently than precious metals or agricultural stuff like wheat and coffee.
I made a mental list: if you want low fees and simplicity, Mitrade. If you want to copy other traders, eToro. If you need advanced charts and research, go IG Group. But honestly, most people probably overthink this. Pick one that doesn't charge crazy fees and has the commodities you actually want to trade. That's it.
