Is it common to see when entering a stock trading application? There are strange abbreviations appended to stock names like CA, XD, XM, T1, and so on. Since I started trading stocks, I’ve been very curious about what these abbreviations mean, so I researched and compiled information for everyone to understand.
Starting with the CA symbol, this abbreviation stands for Corporate Action, which means that the stock is about to have an important event occur within 7 days. When you see CA attached, you can click to view details about what will happen and when. This information is displayed as various abbreviations, each with different meanings.
These abbreviations are mainly divided into three groups. The first group includes abbreviations starting with X, such as XD, XM, XW, XR, etc. The X stands for Excluding, meaning you will not receive certain benefits.
For example, XD stands for Excluding Dividend. If you buy the stock when it’s XD, you will not receive dividends for that period. But if you buy before the XD date, you will still receive dividends like others. XM stands for Excluding Meetings, meaning you do not participate in shareholder meetings. XW means Excluding Warrant, so you do not have the right to purchase warrants. XR stands for Excluding Right, meaning you do not have the right to subscribe for new shares.
The second group includes abbreviations starting with T, such as T1, T2, T3. These abbreviations relate to trading restrictions on stocks with rapidly rising prices. T1 indicates the first level: this stock can only be bought with a Cash Balance account. If it continues to meet criteria, it will escalate to T2, and borrowing as collateral is prohibited. T3 is the highest level: in addition to buying with Cash Balance and not being eligible as collateral, short selling is also prohibited. This means that after selling the stock, the buying power will return the next day instead of immediately.
The third group includes warning abbreviations to alert investors, such as H, which stands for Trading Halt, meaning trading of the stock is temporarily suspended for one trading session. SP stands for Trading Suspension, which halts trading for more than one session. NP means Notice Pending, indicating the company has something to report to the stock exchange. NC stands for Non-Compliance, meaning the company may be delisted. C stands for Caution, warning investors to be cautious because the company has financial issues.
Understanding these CA symbols and various abbreviations is very important for stock investors because they help us know what is happening with the stocks we are interested in—whether it’s dividend payments, shareholder meetings, or warning signs. Checking this information before making buy or sell decisions will help us invest more wisely.
