In response to heavy rainfall, Guangdong has proactively relocated over 23,000 people
According to meteorological monitoring, from 7:00 PM on May 20 to 7:00 PM on May 21, Yangchun Tanshui Town in Yangjiang, Guangdong recorded the maximum total accumulated rainfall of 527.2 millimeters, and the maximum total accumulated rainfall over 12 hours of 440.3 millimeters. Yangjiang Yangchun Hekou Town recorded the province’s highest hourly rainfall of 131 millimeters. Across 10 counties and districts, 19 towns and streets saw extraordinary rainstorms with rainfall exceeding 250 millimeters. As of 7:00 PM on May 21, the water level at Bujin Station in Lianzhou, Qingyuan, Guangdong was 0.11 meters above the warning level; the water level at Wujiang Youzi Reservoir Station in Shaoguan was 0.09 meters above the warning level; the water level at Yaoxing Station in Xingning, Meizhou was 0.05 meters above the warning level; the water level at Shaoguan Wujiang Shaoguan (II) Station was 0.01 meters above the warning level; and the water level at the Yangjiang river embankment Hewei Station was 1.07 meters above the warning level. Water levels in other rivers across Guangdong remain below warning levels, and the overall water situation is basically stable. No reports of casualties have been received.
The CCTV reporter learned from the Guangdong Provincial Emergency Management Department that, as of 7:00 PM on May 21, a total of 23,008 people in Guangdong had been evacuated in advance, including 13,503 in Yangjiang, 5,325 in Jiangmen, 2,845 in Shaoguan, 380 in Maoming, 357 in Zhuhai, 181 in Zhongshan, 34 in Shanwei, 331 in Qingyuan, 9 in Guangzhou, and 43 in Huizhou. As of 7:00 PM on May 21, emergency response levels were maintained in six prefecture-level cities—Heyuan, Shaoguan, Qingyuan, Maoming, Yangjiang, and Jiangmen—and in 37 counties and districts. Among them, Yangchun and Yangdong initiated Level II emergency response.
It is expected that from the evening of May 21 to May 22, heavy rain to torrential rain, with some areas experiencing localized extreme torrential rain, will occur in western Guangdong, the central and western parts of the Pearl River Delta, and cities and counties in northern Guangdong; in the eastern part of the Pearl River Delta, Meizhou, and cities and counties in eastern Guangdong, there will be (thunderstorms) with localized heavy rain.
