Open the stock price app and see strange symbols after the stock name, such as CA XD XM, and wonder what they mean. If you've ever felt like this, you're not alone because these symbols actually have important meanings and can affect our buying and selling decisions.
Let's start with the main one, CA, which is an abbreviation for Corporate Action, meaning that the stock is about to have an important event this week. When you see CA, click to see what the event is, such as dividends, rights offerings, or shareholder meetings. The abbreviations following CA are what really provide the details.
The first group of abbreviations is the X family, which stands for Excluding, meaning you will not receive certain rights. For example, XD means you will not receive dividends if you buy the stock when it goes XD. But if you bought it earlier and hold until it goes XD again, you will receive the next dividend. XM means no voting rights at the shareholder meeting. XR means no rights to subscribe for new shares. There are many others like XW, XS, XT, XI, XP, XA, XE, XN, XB, each with different meanings.
The second group is the T family, related to trading restrictions when a stock rises rapidly. T1, T2, T3 are levels of warning. Stocks with T must be bought with cash only; borrowing is not allowed. The higher the number, the stricter the restriction. T3, the most strict, also prohibits netting.
The third group includes various warning symbols, such as H, which means trading is temporarily halted for one round; SP, which means halted for more than one round; NP, indicating the company has reporting obligations; NC, meaning the company may be delisted; C, warning of financial problems; ST, maintaining price stability.
Understanding these symbols is important because it helps you know what is happening with the stock you're interested in. When you see CA, know to check the details. Don't trade based on emotions. If you're a beginner just starting in the stock market, learn the meanings of these symbols well, as they will help you make smarter decisions. Invest wisely and with knowledge.
