Abstract generation in progress

German media, citing European Commission sources, report that the EU plans to impose a multi-billion euro fine on Alphabet’s Google as part of an antitrust investigation. It is understood that the decision is close to being finalized and is expected to be formally announced before the Commission’s summer recess.

If the report is true, this would be the highest fine the EU has ever imposed for violations of the new Digital Markets Act (DMA). The investigation officially began in March 2025 and involves concerns that Google favors its own services in search results, with the aim of ensuring that the world’s most popular internet search engine complies with EU regulations.
