my view of homeless people changed forever when i learned that more than half of them were foster kids who aged out of the system and were left with no family or resources.

22-46% of foster kids experience homelessness by age 26 (vs. ~4% in the general population).
25-33% of homeless youth and young adults have a history in foster care.
Many enter the system already traumatized, then get kicked out at 18 with $0 and nowhere to go.
We call them failures while ignoring how the system failed them first. No safety net. No second chances. Just survival mode.
