British heatwave hits, Monday's temperature reaches 35°C, breaking May record

The UK Met Office announced that Monday marked the hottest day in the history of May in the UK, with temperatures approaching 35 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures in western London reached as high as 34.8°C, surpassing the previous May temperature record of 32.8°C. The meteorological agency described that even in midsummer, such high temperatures are rare in the UK, let alone in May.

Since this Monday coincided with a public holiday, beaches and swimming pools were crowded, and public fountains were also filled with visitors seeking relief from the heat.
