Just spent way too much time comparing trading platforms for Aussies and honestly, the options are pretty overwhelming if you're just starting out. Everyone talks about the big names, but what actually matters is whether you can figure out how to use the thing without losing your mind, right?
So here's what I found - if you want the best trading platforms that don't require a finance degree to navigate, Mitrade keeps popping up as legit. The interface is clean, you get access to like 100+ assets (forex, stocks, crypto, indices), and there's no commission fees which is huge when you're learning. Plus they do PayID transfers which is way easier than dealing with international bank stuff. The spreads are low and transparent, so you know exactly what you're paying.
eToro's another solid pick if you want to learn by watching other traders. Their copy trading feature is actually useful - you can literally copy what experienced investors are doing instead of staring at charts all day wondering what's happening. No commissions on stocks and ETFs either, though they do charge for currency conversion which adds up.
Plus500 is the simplified option - super clean dashboard, easy to execute trades, spreads instead of commissions. But it's pretty bare bones on the education side, so if you want to level up later it might feel limiting. IG Markets has all the advanced tools you could want but honestly feels like overkill for beginners - the fee structure is complex and the interface can be intimidating at first.
CMC Markets is competitive on pricing but again, probably better for people who already know what they're doing. Pepperstone is built for speed traders, not really beginner-friendly. AvaTrade has decent spreads and puts effort into education, which is nice.
My take? For best trading platforms as a beginner, you're looking at ease of use, transparent fees, and decent educational support. Mitrade seems to nail all three better than most. The zero commission model is cleaner than trying to figure out complex fee structures when you're just starting. Anyone else tried these or have different experiences?
