Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, has received approximately $500 million in international aid commitments to combat the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the eastern part of the country, in order to prevent the epidemic from spreading across the African continent. This amount is double the figure announced two days ago, reflecting the urgency of the situation.

Major sources of donations include the World Bank providing $160 million, the United States contributing $82 million, and Europe offering about $57 million.

Personnel from the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that these aid commitments have essentially covered the approximately $519 million funding gap needed to respond to the outbreak, but as the epidemic spreads and response measures expand, the funding needs may increase.
