Been researching commodities trading platforms lately since I want to diversify beyond just crypto. Honestly there's way more options than I expected. Most people know about the big names like eToro or Plus500, but I found some interesting ones I hadn't heard of before.
The thing is, every commodities trading platform has different strengths. Some are better for beginners, others have insane advanced tools but steep learning curves. I've been comparing fees, leverage options, and what assets they actually offer. Spreads seem to be the main cost with most of them - some charge commissions too which adds up fast.
What surprised me most is how many platforms let you trade oil, gold, and agricultural stuff through CFDs without actually owning the physical asset. That's actually pretty convenient if you just want exposure without dealing with storage. The leverage varies wildly though - saw some offering up to 1:400 on precious metals which is wild.
I'm leaning toward trying a demo account first since most of these commodities trading platforms offer them. Better to test before throwing real money at it, especially with how volatile energy markets can be. The regulatory stuff seems solid on the major ones - they're all properly licensed which is reassuring.
Anyone here actively trading commodities? Curious what platform you ended up choosing and why it worked for you. The research is helpful but hearing from actual users is always different from reading feature lists.
