The Brazilian presidential office said that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was diagnosed with early-stage skin cancer, and that he received superficial radiation therapy to his scalp for the first time that day. After that, he will still need to visit the hospital regularly to continue treatment.

His medical team released a medical report stating that, after Lula had a skin lesion removed a month ago, he has now started additional preventive superficial radiation therapy for the scalp area. Lula will continue to maintain his day-to-day activities without restrictions.

Lula underwent a minor surgical procedure in São Paulo, Brazil, on April 24 to remove a skin lesion on his scalp. Brazilian media reported that Lula removed a basal cell carcinoma lesion. The related treatment process went smoothly and there were no complications. This lesion is typically associated with long-term sun exposure and will not spread to other parts of the body.
