Trump says the US and Iran are close to reaching a peace agreement, and the Strait of Hormuz may reopen.

Mars Finance News, May 25 — The New York Times reports that U.S. President Trump stated that the U.S. and Iran have "basically agreed" on a deal, which may include ending conflicts, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and lifting some sanctions on Iran. However, both sides still have significant disagreements over the details of the agreement.
According to multiple Iranian officials, Iran has agreed to a memorandum of understanding that includes stopping multi-front conflicts, including in Lebanon, restoring commercial navigation through the Strait of Hormuz without tolls, the U.S. lifting its maritime blockade on Iran, and releasing approximately $25 billion of frozen Iranian assets abroad.
U.S. officials say that one of the core elements of the agreement is Iran's principle agreement to give up its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, but the specific handling will be addressed in subsequent nuclear negotiations. Iran has stated that nuclear issues will continue to be discussed over the next 30 to 60 days.
The report states that since the U.S. and Israel launched strikes against Iran in February this year, the Strait of Hormuz has been blocked for a long time, and the global energy markets have remained under pressure. Currently, about 1,500 ships are stranded near the Persian Gulf, and even if the agreement is officially implemented, normal shipping operations could take weeks or even months to resume.
In addition, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has spoken with Trump multiple times. The U.S., Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Pakistan, and other countries have recently been involved in related mediation efforts. Some U.S. Republican hawks have expressed concerns about the agreement, believing that allowing Iran to retain its nuclear capabilities would be a "catastrophic mistake."

The US and Iran each stick to their own positions; whether this agreement is signed or not is still an issue.

If the Strait of Hormuz truly exempts passage fees, how much would global shipping costs decrease?

Trump said it's basically agreed upon, Iran said it's just a memorandum, the gap is a bit big.

Continue negotiations on the core issue for 30 to 60 days; the window isn't long, let's see what happens next.

If the maritime blockade is lifted, easing Iran's oil exports, how will it affect oil prices?
