On May 23, news, the Fuzhou Cangshan District Procuratorate announced that a man, during contact with others' Bitcoin wallets on hard drives and computers, stole the wallet "keys" and related data, stole 4 bitcoins and illegally profited about 900k yuan, was sentenced to 12 years and 7 months in prison for theft by the court, and fined 300k yuan. The second instance upheld the original judgment.
The procuratorial agency stated that although current regulations clearly specify that virtual currencies do not have the status of legal tender, Bitcoin has value, manageability, and transferability, which meet the general characteristics of "property" in criminal law, and is an object of property crimes. Related infringement behaviors will also be subject to criminal liability.
