Wang Yi Meets with Singapore's Foreign Minister to Promote Strengthening Strategic Communication and Jointly Address Global Challenges

Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Beijing with visiting Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian.

Wang Yi said that China and Singapore are different in size, but both are stabilizing factors for the world. Faced with an international situation marked by intertwined changes and turmoil, both China and Singapore are firmly committed to upholding multilateralism, insisting on free trade, and advocating for an international system centered on the United Nations. The two countries should continue to strengthen strategic communication, deepen mutual trust, jointly address the ever-emerging global challenges, and safeguard the overall situation of peace and stability in the region.

Wang Yi said that China attaches great importance to developing the China-Singapore relationship, and is willing to always make the most of the China-Singapore relationship’s ongoing advantages, maintain a strong momentum in high-level exchanges, promote pragmatic cooperation across all areas, and strengthen people-to-people exchanges, so as to play a demonstration and leading role in the region. Ensuring the security of global industrial and supply chains and keeping maritime navigation running smoothly are the common aspirations of countries around the world, and they align with the common interests of the international community; China is willing to continue making efforts toward this end.

Vivian said that today’s world is confronted with many factors of instability and uncertainty, but China and Singapore have always maintained a high level of mutual trust and close cooperation, and bilateral relations remain vibrant. The Singapore side highly values its relationship with China, and in the current complex international situation, China-Singapore cooperation and exchanges are crucial. Keeping the Malacca Strait continuously open serves the interests of all parties, and Singapore supports the free passage through the Malacca Strait and other international sea routes.
