BlockBeats News, May 25 — The Washington Post reported on the 24th that the United States and Iran have reached an agreement on a memorandum of understanding framework. Once signed, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz will be fully restored within 30 days.

The report cites an anonymous senior U.S. government official stating that the U.S. and Iran have developed a "framework" for a memorandum of understanding, including a 60-day extension of the ceasefire so that both sides can reach a "final agreement" to permanently end the Iran conflict. During this period, the Strait of Hormuz will undergo mine clearance and reopen. The official said that this memorandum includes a "commitment" that Iran will not possess nuclear weapons. Over the next two months, the U.S. and Iran will discuss the "mechanism" for implementing this commitment.

However, neither the U.S. nor Iran signed any agreement on the 24th. An anonymous diplomatic source familiar with the matter told The Washington Post that once the memorandum of understanding is signed, Iran will immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz and take measures within 30 days to restore the waterway to pre-war conditions. Additionally, Iran, the U.S., and their allies will announce an immediate halt to all military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.

The report also quotes an anonymous Iranian official saying that the opening of the Strait of Hormuz will be phased. In the first phase, the U.S. will unfreeze $12 billion of Iranian assets, mine clearance work in the Strait of Hormuz will also begin, and U.S. sanctions will be lifted. However, the Iranian official stated that the memorandum of understanding does not include a nuclear agreement, only promising to negotiate on nuclear issues later. More details may be released on the 25th.

The ceasefire is extended by 60 days, then negotiations continue. This script is so familiar.

The deal didn't go through on the 24th; it seems one side added a last-minute price increase again.

Iran promised not to pursue nuclear weapons; this was said back in the 1980s, right?

The pace between the US and Iran, after signing the memorandum and the final agreement, is just like stacking dolls.
