Hong Kong-born astronaut | Sun Dong: Accelerate the construction of Hong Kong's international innovation and technology hub
After witnessing the successful launch of Shenzhou 23 manned spacecraft in Jiuquan, Gansu, the Director of the Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau, Sun Dong, stated that he believes this is not only a success of a space mission but also an important reflection of the leap in the country's technological strength; especially with payload expert Lai Jiaying from Hong Kong also participating, making this honor even more significant. He believes this is an excellent example of Hong Kong integrating into and serving the national strategy through practical actions and contributing Hong Kong's innovation and technology capabilities.
Sun Dong pointed out that everyone witnessed an exciting moment together. When the spacecraft soared into the sky, he felt very excited and a sense of pride as a Chinese.
He said that the success of Shenzhou 23 once again demonstrates that "technology is the primary productive force, talent is the primary resource, and innovation is the primary driving force"; the SAR government will continue to promote the development of innovation and technology, accelerate the construction of an international innovation and technology center, and make greater contributions to building China into a technologically powerful and space-faring nation; Hong Kong has the foundation and strength, especially with the strong backing of the country.
The government continues to create opportunities and conditions for youth to engage in innovation and technology development
Sun Dong said that during the departure ceremony, he was fortunate to see off three astronauts up close. Seeing their determined eyes, he felt more deeply that Hong Kong should also adopt the same space spirit of perseverance in the process of building an international innovation and technology center in the future. He believes that the success of this launch is also an excellent educational opportunity.
He mentioned that most of the Hong Kong delegation this time consisted of young representatives and students from various sectors. He hopes every Hong Kong youth can see the power of dreams through this event; next, the SAR government will continue to create more opportunities and conditions for youth to engage in innovation and technology development. He looks forward to seeing more Hong Kong youth in the vast universe in the future.
Hoping that China’s Manned Space Program Office will make more arrangements for Hong Kong youth and others
He pointed out that the country has taken very good care of Hong Kong this time, arranging the best positions for the Hong Kong delegation. As the team leader, he stood in the front row with leaders at all levels. He believes he was about 4 to 5 meters away from the three astronauts, especially noting that Lai Jiaying was in very good condition. He believes she will surely complete her mission excellently and looks forward to her triumphant return.
Sun Dong said that the SAR government has done a lot over the past two years to alleviate her concerns. She was trained in the shortest possible time, deemed qualified for launch by authorities, and after her launch, he believes the country has also made thorough and meticulous arrangements in all aspects. He hopes that in the future, China’s Manned Space Program Office can make more arrangements, including engaging in dialogues with Hong Kong youth, and he believes the country will make proper arrangements.
