Visiting India, U.S. Secretary of State Rubio said that over the past 48 hours there has been progress in addressing the issue of the conflict with Iran. A draft agreement between the U.S. and Iran has received support from several Middle Eastern countries; currently, 7 to 8 countries in the region are backing the draft, and the U.S. is prepared to continue pushing it forward.

Rubio said that the Iran nuclear negotiations are highly technical and cannot be resolved by “scribbling on the back of a napkin” within 72 hours, but the commitment by President Trump to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons should not be called into question.

During his visit to India on Sunday, Rubio met with Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar to discuss issues including the Middle East, trade, visas, maritime security, and energy supply.

Earlier, Trump posted on a social media platform describing that relations with Iran are becoming more professional and productive, so there cannot be any mistakes. He also said that he had informed diplomatic representatives not to rush to reach an agreement with Iran because time is in America’s favor.
