Vitalik: The Ethereum Foundation should not become the center of the ETH ecosystem and will shift towards a smaller, long-termist approach

Odaily Planet Daily News: Vitalik posted on the X platform, saying that the relevant content only represents his personal views. The Ethereum Foundation’s board of directors is not only him; he does not have more special power than other directors. Aya Miyaguchi is leading most of the execution work for this transformation, while Vitalik himself is mainly handling technical issues. The board is currently expanding, and his influence within the organization will continue to decline in the future. Vitalik said that the Ethereum Foundation made multiple improvements in execution capabilities in 2025, but he has recently been more focused on outside criticism about the foundation deviating from its values. Vitalik said that the Ethereum Foundation should not become the center of Ethereum; instead, it should be a node with clear responsibilities, existing alongside other nodes in parallel. The Ethereum Foundation currently holds only about 0.16% of all ETH, which is lower than many large ETH holders, while many other blockchain projects’ central foundations typically control 10% to 50% of the tokens. The Ethereum Foundation will use its remaining resources to pursue long-term survival capability rather than continuous expansion, which also means selling less ETH. The foundation will focus on matters that are crucial for Ethereum to become an anti-censorship, anti-control, open, private, secure system—things that, if the foundation does not do them, then no one else will. Vitalik said that this means the foundation must make difficult choices, and some endorsed projects and respected people may no longer belong to the foundation’s system in the future.
