Not fiat currency ≠ not property; this classification is quite important in the crypto world. The fact that the appeal is dismissed further underscores a clear stance.

Wu Shuo learned that, according to China News Service reports, the People's Procuratorate of Cangshan District, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, recently filed a public prosecution against a Bitcoin theft case.
At the end of 2020, Wang entrusted Lin to cash out his Bitcoin holdings and agreed to pay a reward, but Lin used operations on Wang's Bitcoin wallet hard drive to steal the wallet's "key" and related data, transferring 4 Bitcoins to his own name and selling them gradually, illegally profiting about 900k yuan.
In 2024, after Wang discovered the assets were missing, he reported the case to the police, and Lin was subsequently arrested.
Prosecutors stated that although national documents clearly specify that virtual currencies do not have the status of legal tender, Bitcoin meets the general characteristics of property under criminal law and is an object of property crimes.
Lin was sentenced to 12 years and 7 months in prison and fined 300k yuan; Lin appealed, and the Fuzhou Intermediate People's Court ruled to reject the appeal and uphold the original judgment.
