US Media: Israel is almost excluded from US-Iran negotiations, Netanyahu marginalized by the US side
BlockBeats News, May 23 — The New York Times reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was deeply involved in the Trump administration's Iran strategy during the early stages of the U.S.-Iran conflict, even leading discussions on joint strikes against Iran and promoting regime change in the Islamic Republic.
However, as the situation developed and the U.S. and Iran initiated ceasefire and peace talks, Israel was clearly marginalized. The report states that Israeli officials were almost excluded from U.S.-Iran negotiations and could only rely on regional diplomatic channels and their own intelligence networks to gather information.
The report points out that this change poses a political blow to Netanyahu. He has long been portrayed as "the Israeli leader who knows Trump best" and has publicly claimed to speak with Trump "almost every day" and to make joint decisions. But now, with the U.S. reducing coordination with Israel in key diplomatic processes, he has been "moved from the cockpit to the economy class." Analysts believe this not only weakens Israel's influence over the situation but could also impact Netanyahu's prospects for re-election this year.
