Iran closes western airspace

On May 23, it was reported that the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) for Iranian airspace, temporarily closing all airports in the western “Tehran Flight Information Region” except for eight airports, including Tabriz International Airport and Mehrabad International Airport. The notice keeps only these eight airports open to commercial flights, and only between sunrise and sunset. The notice is valid from May 22, 2026, to May 25, 2026. All flights operated by airlines that fly over or into Iran still require permission from the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization.
