Lately, when people say "on-chain data is lagging," it's probably not because your internet is bad… It’s more like the indexer/Subgraph/RPC is struggling, especially when new L1/L2 incentives boost TVL. When more people come in, everyone rushes in, and old users are both "mining, selling" and overwhelming the nodes, which is quite realistic.

To put it simply, the balances, transactions, NFT lists you see—many of them are not fetched in real-time directly from the chain. Someone has already organized the block data into an index, and you’re just asking it for the results. If the index is behind, the Subgraph is still syncing, or RPC is rate-limiting (returning 429 or timeouts due to too many requests), the front end will just show loading spinners, data jumping around, or even inconsistent data between one second and the next… Anyway, don’t rush to blame the project team for running away; it might just be that “there are too many people, the servers can’t handle it.” I usually just refresh once or switch to a different RPC, and try to stay calm.
