U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard submitted her resignation to President Trump, citing the need to care for her husband, who has bone cancer, and her final working day will be June 30.

In a social media post, Trump said Gabbard did an excellent job, that he will miss her, and announced that Deputy Director of National Intelligence Aaron Lukas will serve as Acting Director of National Intelligence.

According to U.S. media reports, Gabbard has been sidelined within the White House’s national security decision-making system. In recent months, Trump has had some criticisms of her and has been considering replacement candidates.

The reports said Gabbard has long opposed U.S. government military interventions abroad. On the Iran nuclear issue, she disagreed with Trump. After the large-scale military action against Iran launched by the U.S. and Israel at the end of February, she publicly stated during a congressional testimony that Iran had not attempted to rebuild its nuclear program, and she refused to confirm that Iran posed an imminent threat, as the U.S. side claimed.
