Even if the password is leaked, attackers still can't access the account without the code from Google Authenticator. This gives me much more peace of mind, especially when withdrawing funds or performing important transactions.

In terms of features, what is an authenticator and why is it so widely used? Because it’s simple, free, and supports multiple platforms. I can link it with Gmail, exchange accounts, Dropbox, and many other services. Each account has its own code, avoiding confusion.

The installation process is also very easy. I just need to download it from the App Store or Google Play, then go to the security settings of each service, select 2FA with Google Authenticator, scan the QR code or manually enter the secret key. The first time I did it, I was a bit worried, but once I understood the process, it felt very normal.

However, I also encountered some issues. The first time I changed phones, I didn’t know how to recover my account. Luckily, I saved the secret key in a safe place, so I just reinstalled the app and entered the key. Since then, I always remember to save the secret key and recovery codes immediately after activating 2FA.

One important note I learned from experience: ensure that the time on your phone is set automatically. If the time zone is wrong, the code won’t work and you could get locked out of your account. I also recommend protecting your phone with a password or biometrics, because Google Authenticator is the key to accessing your important accounts.

Compared to other 2FA apps like Authy or Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator remains my top choice. It’s lightweight, doesn’t take up much memory, works offline, and is simple. Authy has cloud backup features, but I prefer Google Authenticator’s more independent operation.
