I wonder how many bitcoins Elon Musk actually has through his companies? I recently looked at the data and realized that Tesla and SpaceX hold quite significant amounts. It turns out that their total BTC holdings are worth over 2 billion dollars at the current exchange rate.
The thing is, SpaceX accumulated 8.285 BTC back in early 2021 when the price was around 32 thousand. Now, that’s worth approximately 627 million dollars at the current price. Tesla owns 11.509 BTC — they started investing a bit later, in February 2021, at an average price of $33,539 per coin. Based on the current rate, their portfolio is valued at about 870 million.
What surprised me is that Tesla is still in the top 8 companies by the number of bitcoins among public corporations. Ahead is MicroStrategy with 592.345 BTC, followed by MARA Holdings, several mining companies, and Galaxy Digital. But an interesting fact is that Coinbase, the exchange itself, ranks only 10th with 9.267 BTC. It turns out Tesla holds more than Coinbase itself.
Overall, if you calculate the profit from the 2021 investments — Musk’s companies earned about 1.5 billion dollars from the price increase. Not bad for strategic holdings, right?
