The capital of Cuba, Havana, held a large rally on Friday, with thousands of Cuban residents gathering in front of the U.S. Embassy in Havana, holding banners and waving Cuban flags to condemn and protest the U.S. government’s accusations against former Cuban leader Raúl Castro.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel attended the rally. He also posted on social media, saying that the so-called claim that Cuba poses a threat to the United States exists only in the feverish minds of certain U.S. government officials. These officials are openly lying in order to find an excuse for war.

Diaz-Canel also said that the United States, while having no evidence and being opposed by the majority of the international community, nonetheless insists on placing Cuba on the list of state sponsors of terrorism. In effect, it is stirring public opinion in an attempt to launch a military invasion against Cuba. He reaffirmed Cuba’s legitimate right to self-defense guaranteed by international law, and said that the Cuban people and the military will not back down.
