Recently, because I needed to test SMS verification for some overseas services, I finally started using a code-receiving platform. I used to think this thing was a bit useless, but now I realize it really saves effort. Basically, it’s using a virtual number to temporarily receive verification codes, without having to actually get a new SIM card.
I’ve encountered quite a few pitfalls myself—some platforms don’t receive messages at all, others have delays of half a day. In the end, I’ve compiled a few decent ones. SMS-Activate works the most smoothly; in most cases, the verification code arrives within ten seconds. It covers many countries and is especially suitable for cross-border application testing. 5SIM’s interface is also very user-friendly, with clear API documentation, and both Google and Twitter can receive verification codes normally.
If you mainly use Chinese numbers on code-receiving platforms for domestic application testing, both Xiaoniao Code and Super Cloud SMS have good experiences. Xiaoniao Code’s Chinese numbers usually receive messages in 5 to 15 seconds, especially fast during the day, but sometimes get stuck late at night. Super Cloud SMS’s US number segments take about 10 to 30 seconds; Chinese numbers are even faster, but shared number segments can sometimes be flagged for risk control, so switching to a different number usually works. Getsmscode is cheap and suitable for light users, but less popular platforms may have delays.
When using these Chinese number code-receiving platforms, there are a few things to note: shared numbers are easily used by others, verification codes may have delays especially for less common applications, don’t choose platforms just to save money, and definitely don’t use them as your main long-term number. My experience is, if you’re just testing interfaces, just pick one that supports API; but if you want stable registration on overseas websites, it’s best to top up multiple numbers and switch immediately if one becomes invalid. Some platforms support one-click number switching, which is very practical.
Honestly, these are just tools—use them to protect privacy, avoid spam, and test interfaces—they’re quite convenient. But don’t use them for illegal activities. Based on my experience, SMS-Activate and 5SIM perform the most stably, with low delays and wide coverage, worth trying. Have you used any code-receiving platforms? Which platform works best for you?
