You probably know Elon Musk, but his brother Kimbal is just as fascinating in his own way. A few days ago, Kimbal posted a fierce critique of Trump and his pricing policies on X, which surprised more than one observer. The interesting thing? Despite their public disagreements, the two brothers adore each other.
Kimbal Musk, 52 years old, has an estimated fortune of 700 million dollars, largely made up of his shares in Tesla (about 0.04%). That’s far from negligible, even if it remains modest compared to his elder’s astronomical wealth. What makes him recognizable at first glance is his signature cowboy hat that he wears constantly. A detail that contrasts with Elon’s more austere image.
The two brothers share many common traits. Born in Pretoria, South Africa, they inherited the same square jaw, the same straight nose, and the same green eyes. Both hold triple citizenship: South African, Canadian, and American. With their younger sister Tosca (50 years old), they grew up in a difficult family environment marked by parental violence. Their mother Maya, now 76, had to divorce in 1979 to protect her children.
The family then migrated to Canada and later to the United States. It was there that Kimbal and Elon founded Zip2, a pioneering startup in enterprise software for the Internet. The venture was short but lucrative: in 1999, they sold it to Compaq for 307 million dollars. An initial success that marked the beginning of their respective careers. Since then, Kimbal has pursued his own path, building his fortune independently while remaining connected to the tech and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
