Wow, I just saw the list of the richest athletes in the world and I was blown away. Michael Jordan is in first place with $3.6 billion — I understand he's a legend, but I didn't expect such a sum. Turns out, the wealthiest athlete in the world earned not so much from sports itself, but from business and investments.
What surprised me is Cristiano Ronaldo being in the top, but not in the top 3. Ronaldo is clearly one of the wealthiest athletes in the world, but his $1.2 billion seems modest compared to Jordan and McMahon. And Messi is even lower — $850 million. LeBron James, Federer, Woods — all of them are in the hundreds of millions, which is already crazy money in itself.
By the way, it's interesting that the list includes people I didn't even associate with sports as their main source of income. McMahon from WWE, Godel from NFL — these are more businessmen than athletes. But overall, the richest athlete in the world isn't just a champion, he's an entrepreneur. Maybe that's a lesson for new generations of athletes?
The figures are rounded, of course, but even so, it's impressive.
