Been seeing the goat emoji everywhere next to athlete names and finally decided to look it up lol. Turns out GOAT isn't about actual goats at all - it's just short for Greatest Of All Time. Makes sense now why Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have it plastered all over their stuff.

What's wild is these two have been going at it for like 20 years straight. Started competing when they were 17 and now they're in their late 30s still breaking records and winning everything. The full form of goat in football basically applies to players who consistently dominate at the highest level for decades. You're talking about scoring 40+ goals every single year, hundreds of assists, endless trophies - stuff no one else has managed to do at this level.

Messi apparently even got it embroidered on his jersey which is pretty iconic. Roger Federer, Michael Jordan, and Tom Brady have the GOAT label too in their sports, but in football it's really just been these two. Though lately people are wondering if Erling Haaland could join the conversation if he keeps his pace up. The bar is insanely high though - you basically need 15-20 years of absolute dominance to even be in the conversation. Curious if anyone will actually reach that level again.
